Operating licences for casino operators, affiliates and associates are all regulated by the industry watchdog, the UK Gambling Commission. They provide licences to bingo game providers, casino gaming machine providers, casinos, lottery operators as well as remote gambling and external lottery managers.

The first images of the proposed £25million scheme have now been revealed by the Stockton based company and include a luxury hotel, budget hotel, banqueting facilities, casino, restaurants and multi-storey car park.

The licence is only one of eight such large casino licences in the UK and the only one north of Leeds. The development will transform the vacant Gurney House building as well as adjoining car parks and could generate up to 300 jobs.

Jomast’s Development Director, Adam Hearld, said, “We are delighted to have won the casino competition and this will enable us to revitalise this important town centre site. Our vision is to create a major new, casino- based, leisure and entertainment destination that will have far reaching benefits for Middlesbrough”.
Cllr Charlie Rooney, Executive Member for Regeneration at Middlesbrough Council, added, “The Council’s Licensing Committee resolved to grant Gurney Casino Ltd with a Provisional Statement which it can apply to convert into a large casino licence in due course.
